Meet Maddy Bolt - a woman who has the drive, grounding and initiative to accomplish whatever she puts in her path. From a very young age she has felt a bond with the ocean and being surrounded by water; growing up in Toronto, Canada didn’t offer much support for that passion but travels around the world brought her closer to it with surfing and sailing.
Maddy studied at the University of British Columbia where she majored and wrote an honors thesis on Marine Biology. During her summers she would work in the Caribbean and Tofinio, Canada as a sailing, diving and marine biology instructor and educator while also working with youth in the outdoors.
An all around incredible human to chat with, who has sailed incredible places and one day wants to challenge herself to a solo sailing trip - she has sailed from the Galapagos islands to Tahiti and beyond! She currently on a solo cycling trip across Eastern Canada to raise money for the upcoming youth program she’s hosting. OceanFolx Program is a femme-focused sailing, surfing and sustainability camp for youth taking place in Lombok, Indonesia April 2024.

Join us as I speak with Julia Lutchman, former Travel Agent (at the same agency I worked for back in the day!) and now owner of Found Book Shop in Cochrane, Alberta. Julia was in the travel industry when paper airlines were originally issued, she’s traveled the world and gone from being a travel agent to owning her own agency (Evexia Travel) to then pivoting in 2020 to starting a used book store (Found Book Shop).
We swap stories about working in the travel industry, what our real life ‘flightmares’ were all about and how being an entrepreneur in tourism led her to where she is now.

Assetou (Assi) joins us from Vancouver Island and shares her journey from working in Financial Tech to becoming Project Manager at Hotel Zed & Accent Inns. She implements systems, improves processes and launches major projects at these hotels in B.C. Her background is in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion as well as intersectional work through Non-Governmental Organizations. She changed careers in 2020 to work in tourism and has earned top accolades in the industry being awarded the Tourism Industry Association of Canada’s 30 Under 30 Achiever Award and 40 under 40 business achiever award in Kelowna, BC.

Corporate world drop out, Jessica left the constraints of the corporate desk to head back to her hometown in search of something more. But the journey home was longer than expected, as she made a detour backpacking through Europe, Asia and then residing in Vietnam for a few years as a rock-climbing assistant, before finally making the move home to Kota Kinabalu.
Once home she was quick to plunge into the deep blue becoming a dive master in just 8 months. She has an inescapable itch for the outdoors, but has found a balance by spending half her time at the Sticky Rice Office and the other out guiding National Geographic Adventure’s Indochina destinations. Alice Morrison joins us from the base of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco where she currently lives to share her adventures from all over the world. She has been given the title of Indiana Jones for girls and after you hear, you'll understand why!
She's been traveling the world since she was 6 months old, grew up in Uganda, Africa and attended University in Edinburgh, Scotland & Cairo, Egypt. While living in the UK she worked her way up the corporate ladder working as co-Editor of the daytime hours for the BBC News Channel and was one of only three female news editors in the corporation at the time.
After a turn of events she found herself looking for a change and decided to join the Tour d'Afrique - racing her bike across Africa from Cairo to Capetown and she hasn't stopped adventuring since.
Alice not only has a passion for travel, but her determination to try something new is truly an inspiration.
