Sarah Coote is a woman who has followed her love of the ocean and passion for travel to fully immerse herself in travel in every career she’s had. She’s currently working and living on Christmas Island, an incredible island located 350km south of Indonesia.
If you haven’t heard of Christmas Island, well just remember that every day is a gift when waking up on Christmas Island. From giant rubber crabs migrating, to eco lodges or bird watching the frigatebird to swimming with humpback whales with what seems to be a never ending sunset on the horizon - the more layers you discover of Christmas Island, the more you will want to go back every year.
Sarah has toured guests from her first job as a dolphin instructor to living abroad most of her life and bringing her family with spouse and 4 children along for the ride! With over 18 years of experience in tourism and over 15 years experience in business, project management, tourism & destination marketing, photography and cinematography she has gotten to promote destinations on land and underwater around the globe. Be inspired as she shares how she’s decided to lead her life with travel first and being surrounded by the ocean - your jaw will drop like mine did when hearing about her encounter with dolphins while pregnant 2 days after her due date! Unreal experience.
Hear about this incredible island, what to expect and what to do as well as what their Christmas tradition is on Christmas Island (population of 1400) and my favorite question - why is it even called Christmas Island?!
Another destination to add to the never ending bucket-list!
Until next time, fly straight.

Let's chat about travel!
Join me as I review the top travel tips of 2023 found on Google and give my honest, unbiased and sometimes ridiculous opinion of what worked and hasn't while I've travelled through 37 countries. Learn from my mistakes and listen to this podcast if you want to now more about:
- Ways to save on attractions!
- What to bring on a flight?
- Should you travel during off-season?
- Where to ask for travel advice while in destination?
- How to pack your clothes well?
- Where to pack your medications and much more!
Plus, I can't help but spill the tea about the time my underwear was stolen in the USA, or when I got what I thought was cold medication in Thailand - and definitely had to share about what happened on a plane with a wet wipe!
I’d love to hear from you, leave a review of what you thought of the episode.

This conversation is nothing short of inspiring; Zakia Moulaouri had an idea to make change for those affected by homelessness and to empower them to become tour guides in their own city. Zakia joins us from her home in Scotland and we talk about how her love of languages has given her the opportunity to study them and travel the globe. In 2015 she had an idea of how to bridge the gap of homelessness and use the power of tourism to offer hope and a sense of purpose to those in need.
Invisible Cities has given just that to many in the UK that needed guidance, and something so profound in this conversation is the reminder that no one she has met has wanted to be homeless, but their circumstance has brought them there.
Zakia and her team are making change and my hope is that this conversation sparks an idea on ways you can make a difference in your city too - perhaps tourism is the answer?
What are your thoughts? Leave a review, I’d love to hear from you.
